Matthew 21:12-16 (NKJV)
Jesus Cleanses the Temple
12 Then Jesus went into the temple of God and drove out all those who bought and sold in the temple, and overturned the tables of the money changers and the seats of those who sold doves. 13 And He said to them, “It is written, ‘My house shall be called a house of prayer but you have made it a ‘den of thieves.’”
14 Then the blind and the lame came to Him in the temple, and He healed them. 15 But when the chief priests and scribes saw the wonderful things that He did, and the children crying out in the temple and saying, “Hosanna to the Son of David!” they were indignant16 and said to Him, “Do You hear what these are saying?”
And Jesus said to them, “Yes. Have you never read, ‘Out of the mouth of babes and nursing infants You have perfected praise’?”
Creator and sustainer of Life, You are the Voice and the Good News that speaks to the poor, the sick, the downtrodden and the oppressed. You are the Healer for the brokenhearted, the Liberator for those who have been held captive and You are Sight for those who are blind.
You are the Destiny that has forever changed history.
Come into my life, come into this temple—invade this temple and overturn those things that are unlike You. Take over Lord!
Overturn my eating habits, my spending habits, my selfish, unfruitful lifestyle choices, and even overturn those places where I have robbed You of Your glory and honor.
Make this place, this space and this temple into a house of prayer. Go even further Lord and turn this bodily house into a home where You can dwell, rule and reign in my life and the lives of those around me.
May this temple be that which reflects praise, that others may see Your great works in me. Teach me to take care of this physical temple, as I await the Day where I will receive a temple which will have no end.
Even in my present church, may it live as a house of prayer and never a den of thieves. In my blindness, make me to see and in my lameness, make me to walk with others as one body in Christ. Make me not resistant to the building process or even indignant to the progress and blessing of others.
